March 12-13th Bass Pro Shops Manteca is having it's 2011 Spring Fishing classic. There will be lots of good fishing seminars below is a list of whats available. Local guide Kevin Brock will be there both days starting with delta striper Saturday and ending the show with California hot spots Sunday. All seminars will be held in the conservation room next to the shooting arcade. FREE BAIT! dead Anchovies in Redondo Beach

Still no answers to why all these Anchovies showed up dead in a harbor Tuesday morning. DFG so far believes they died of oxygen deprivation, somehow they came into the marina and couldn't get out depleting all the oxygen and died. This may bee true but personally I believe there would be other species of dead fish. Watch the video from KTLA Sky 5

Salmon spawning above folsom lake.

Did you know Chinook Salmon haven't been planted in Folsom since 2006. Back in 1997 DFG introduced Chinook salmon from the Nimbus hatchery just down stream to help create another fishing opportunity in Folsom lake. The fingerling salmon quickly grew at a rate of 1 inch per month and it turned into a great fishing experience for many people. In 2006 the program was stopped due to diseases in the fish from the lake causing the hatchery problems down stream. Several studies have been done on the south fork of the American and a good number of 20 inch range Chinooks have been found spawning in the river. There is still a decent amount of the salmon in Folsom lake. You can catch 12"-14" fish to this day that didn't come from any hatchery they are American river landlocked Chinook salmon. DFG and fish biologist are very happy with this as it shows if native salmon and steelhead were once again introduced into the upper American river above Folsom there is a good chance it would be a success. Also on the Yuba River there is studies being done with hopes of returning native salmon and steelhead above Englebright reservoir. The south yuba river citizens league is fighting hard to reintroduce these fish to the yuba.

We give a dam and hope the Army corps of engineers and the government do whats needed. Listed in the Army Corps of engineers budget for 2012 is $100,000.00 of funding to study fish passages around Englebright and Daguerre Point dams on the lower Yuba river. The South and middle fork of the Yuba river could have returning runs of Steelhead trout and Chinook salmon if done correctly.

Get paid to fish save Salmon and Steelhead make up to $80,000 a year, and your hired.

This is a great deal just catch northern pikeminnow on the Columbia river or Snake river and get paid $4-8 per fish. The top angler last year made over $80,000. Also there are many tagged fish worth $500 each.

San Francisco resident caught poaching Abalone 3 times in 3 weeks.

Local DFG has been busy with Abalone poaching. One man from San Francisco has been caught 3 times in just 3 weeks. Also another San Francisco resident has been working with him and arrested on the last two incidents. On two of the arrest all of the dive gear was seized. Twice a vehicle has been seized. These two pukes need to locked up I say three strikes your out. I think if they like diving so much send them down to the mendota canal and have them dive for dumped cars its kinda like abalone diving. We could fix both problems. Then LA wouldn't get as much rainbow shiny water laced with battery acid.

Trout Plants Collins, and Pardee

Several local lakes are getting huge numbers of good trophy sized trout planted.

First Collins lake my local favorite for white meat stockers had a 1,300 pound plant of trophy trout 2/5/11 and they are scheduled for another this week of 1,300 pounds. This makes for some very good odds to catch some huge trout. They also have been planting catfish and recently a 12lb 4oz hog was caught. Pardee lake our friend to the south opens for camping today and fishing starts tomorow. They have been closed for fishing most of the winter and have been stocking the $%:? out of this lake with trout. About 7,000 pounds of trout have been planted this week and next weekend they are scheduled for another 5,000 pounds of trout. "JACK ON" MORNING STAR CHARTERS STURGEON

An old friend of ours here at NorCalFishOn recently spent a day in the bay aboard the Morning Star from Crocket CA. Lucky Jack caught a keeper sturgeon, January 20th we dont know the weight or length but is was a nice fish. Now we get to throw him under the buss for catching this fish. Sorry Jack if your reading this but I have to tell everyone the nickname we gave you last time you were fishing with us. So we were all on a charter boat halibut fishing and Jack was catching or I should say hooking allot of fish, and we regularly say allot of "fish on" or "fish off" while on these trips to let others around us know whats going on. So Jack was having a good day and we started to say "Jack on" every time he would hook into another fish. Then somehow he lost one on the side of the boat and somebody said "Jack off". well it might not be the proper thing to say on a public charter boat but it got everyones attention and from then on if Jack lost a fish yep someone was saying it. Even the deck hands said it a couple times. So Jack just remember when your fishing try like all hell to not loose any fish or you know what might happen!

Tequila Kayaks for 1 person or 9!

Check this out it can be for 1 person or more. I think this is a great idea if you want a solo kayak and occasionally want to have a tandem kayak. Also because it breaks down it would be much easier to store and travel with.

Its early in the year and not much fishing news to report except for the Sportsman's ISE show this weekend at Cal Expo. One lucky fisherman up north keeps rubbing in the great action on the coast. First it was The smith river 15 lb steelhead, now he's traveled up the road to the Chetco river and has had easy limits every day! Bank fishing with spin and glows. See the pictures of these native and hatchery chrome. Sorry for the picture quality and bloody fish but that's what you get from an oaky on the river fishing solo and only a cell phone camera. FISHON!!!!!

Smoked Salmon on the grill!

Spent a lazy Saturday at home and fired up the old weber smoker to clean out the freezer. After a couple days in the marinade/brine on it went for about a 7 hour smoke. Pittsburg Steelers beat Baltimore, then Green Bay Packers showed up to fight as the underdog and pounded the Atlanta Falcons. See the pictures below of the smoker in action.
